Nissan Repair: Nissan Avenir speedometer, long nose plier, nissan avenir

Hello, the speedometer(& odometer/trip meter) in my 1994 nissan avenir w10 w/ 2.0L diesel has stopped working.  Is it a cable or electrical speedo, and how do I go about replacing it?

Hi Kurt -

First thing I would check is the cable.

Check where it enters the trans first. Unscrew the hold down and take the plastic gear out of the trans housing and inspect it for missing teeth or breakage.

If not, then perhaps the canle is snapped:

The instrument panel will have to be removed for this. Back of the panel is a connection where the cable plug into the back of the speedometer. Unclip that and the housing will separate with the cable inside. Pull the cable out with a long nose plier and inspect it.
