Nissan Repair: downshift ballast resistor, ballast resistor, electronic control module

Question
I recently replaced the electronic control module for the automatic transmission for my 1995 mercury village/Nissan quest.
during my investments the Nissan dealer has informed me that there is a downshift ballast resistor also associated with this transmission and that it could also be faulty. i have searched in vain to locate this in the engine compartment as they had explained the location and have yet to have found this. could you please let me know if this is in the engine compartment or where I should be looking to find this part to in fact see if it is corroded or not functioning at all.

Answer
Chris,

The resistor is in the harness that goes to the transmission.  It is taped up in the harness and rarely goes bad.  If the ECM corrected your problem leave the resistor alone.  If you insist, cut the harness open and track the wire back until you find the bulge in the harness.
