Nissan Repair: Vibration in my I35, 2002 infiniti i35, rear tires

Question
QUESTION: Hi. I submitted question but I do not know if it went through, so I am submitting again. I have a 2002 Infiniti I35, 153K miles. I developed a vibration in the tires, can also hear it and feel it in the steering wheel somewhat (its not shimmying), also feel it in the brake pedal. It is also felt when not applying the brakes at 45mph+. I know that this can be warped rotors, but vibration also felt when driving w/o braking. Is this just the rotors or more? When I drive less than 5 miles, I can also feel a lot of heat coming from the front rotors - back ones are usually cold. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Sean -

Yes, I see 2 entries to your question. I will send a "dupe question" response to the other inquiry.

Anyway, I think you have a defect in one of your front tires. The best way to check this is to get down in front of each tire and run your hands flatly along the tire surface slowly. You are feeling for a lump on the tire surface, usually caused by air getting in between each ply. Otherwise you can lift the wheels off the ground, and spin the tires. You will see if there is a lump right away by watching the surface while it is spinning.

QUESTION: Thanks, Calvin, I really appreciate your reply to my question, but I would like to ask if you also think that my rotors may be warped by the information that I provided. Even before the vibration while driving, I could feel pulsation in the pedal while braking. Thanks for you time.

Answer
Hi Sean

I think I replied to this but just in case, I will reply again.

If you feel pulsation when the car is moving at about 20 to 25 miles an hour without pressing the brake, then it is probably not the rotors. That would be the tires, if you feel it on the steering wheel, I would check the front tires, and if the entire vehicle pulsates, check the rear tires.

Condemn the rotors only if the pulsation happens when the brake is applied.
