Nissan Repair: side mirror repair, silicone line, mirror repair

Question
I have a 2001 nisssan altima gxe.  My side mirror on the passenger's side is missing.  Only the mirror itself is missing not the whole part.  Do you know what I mean? Only the mirror itself not the part where the mirror is installed.  My question is can I have a spare mirror (the mirror itself not the whole part).  Is there anyway I can glue or attach this spare mirror I have? If so how can I attach it?  Is there a special glue, cement or something I can buy? Any how do I do it? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Jen -

You may purchase the mirror separately. Usually you can get it from any auto parts store. I get mine at Carquest, however I don't know if you have a carquest there. Autozone is another one. A reminder that rear view mirrors are specially made for autos and normal mirrors will not work. So, it has to be ordered through a parts store.

Anyway, once you have the mirror, you will need some double stick tape and silicone. Determine the contact points on the mirror, and place the double stick tape on some of them. Then select 3 random contact areas and apply some silicone. Line up the mirror and affix it carefully. The double stick tape will hold it in place while the silicone cures.

Hope this helps -
