Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Frontier ignition, nissan frontier, battery cable

Question
I stepped out of my truck, got back in a few minutes later and it will not start or even try to turn over. I checked the battery its fine, all the gauges work along with the lights. I disconnected the positive battery cable to re-set the computer and still nothing. When I turn the key to crank it there is a slight whistling sound and a low clicking sound (Not the starter). Where do I start looking??

Answer
Hi Brent -

Have you checked your starter?
Best way is to get a voltmeter or light tester. With the ignition in the start position (have someone hold the key like you are starting the car), check the power on the smaller wire leading to the starter. If there is power, replace the starter.

If there is no power, check the large wire going to the starter. If there is power (and no power to the small wire), then it could be the ignition switch.

If there is no power at all to the starter, then check the large circuit fuses and fusible link in the box on the fenderwell in the engine compartment.

Hope this helps -
