Nissan Repair: Primera cam shaft sensor, nissan primera 2002, camshaft position sensor

Question
Hello
My Nissan Primera 2002 1.6 is jerky when cold.I cant get it to rev past 3000/4000 RPM.Its fine once the engine warms up after roughly 10 minutes. The engine light is on.I got the engine codes read in my local garage. They were
PO340  camshaft position sensor problem B1
P0011  intake valve timing control/B1 A-cam position timing system perform.
The garage reckon I need a new timing chain....What do you think I should do next
Thanks in advance
Kevin

What do you think my next step should be?

Answer
Kevin,

It is quite possible that the timing chain needs to be replaced.  But, to be sure have them change the camshaft position sensor first.  Second, if the oil has not been changed regularly the intake timing control could be gummed up.  So, I would have the valve cover removed and inspect the cam and the timing chain from this angle before removing the timing cover.
