Nissan Repair: 1998 nissan maxima steering rack, power steering rack, cv joints

Question
should i change the whole power steering rack or just the rods/arms? both the boots are cracked on both sides. driver/passenger.sometimes the car makes this clicking noises. i just changed the Cv joints and while doing the work i saw the boots cracked on the steering rods

Answer
Rob,

If the powersteering fluid is not leaking and the car's steering is fine would lead me to just replace the rack boots.  Now, that will require an alignment when you are done unless you can count, exactly, the turns required to remove the outer tie rod from the inner one and then replace it exactly with the same number of turns.  If the car still clicks going around corners after this would lead me to think one of those new (rebuilt) CV driveshafts has too much slop in it.  Windows down, driving slowly, in a parking lot turn the wheel one direction and then the other and see which side the noise is coming from.
