Nissan Repair: Fuel, open flames, nissan truck

Question
I just purchased a 1993 Nissan Truck 4cyl. 4x4.It was sitting for 2 years. What is the best way to get rid of the old fuel and change the fuel filter?

Answer
Keith,

I would drain the gas from the tank using a syphon hose or you could connect to the fuel line at the engine and use a container by turning the key on until the fuel is gone.  In either case do this outside with someone standing by with a fire extinguisher and no open flames or light bulbs that could pop causing a fire.  Once all the fuel is gone replace the filter and reconnect the lines and refill the tank.  Change the engine oil and filter too.  If you want to get serious you could remove the sparkplugs and spray WD40 in the holes and replace the plugs.  This gets lubrication to the rings.  If it were me I would replace the transmission fluid and the differential fluids too.  Also, after two years an antifreeze flush is in order.  Just drain and refill after you get the truck running.  No backflushing as this tends to blow the heater core.
