Nissan Repair: brakes, channel lock pliers, metric socket

Question
I need to change my brake pads on my 1996 nissan pu 4x2, in the front, what tools do i need to change my pads and what steps in order i need to take when changing my pads ?

Answer
Hi Jimmy -

You will need a metric socket set, large channel lock pliers or a c clamp, and a ratchet.

Work one side at a time. After removing the wheel, remove the caliper by undoing the 2 bolts, one at the top of the caliper, and one at the bottom. I think they should be 14mm. Then tilt the caliper out and remove the 2 pads. Compress the piston by placing the old pad across the piston and squeezing it down. This may take some effort, as long as you do it evenly, you should be fine. Once the piston is compressed, clean all contact areas with brake cleaner. Brush some grease on the brake hardware clips (this is important otherwise you will have squeaks). Then proceed to replace the pads, reverse of how it was removed. After the caliper is back on, pump the brakes a few times to set the pads in.

Hope this helps -
