Nissan Repair: Nissan sentra solenoid malfunctioning, nissan sentra, valve body

Question
Hi  I own a 2004 nissan sentra 1.8s that i bought used which has 88000 kilometers on it currently, the service engine light is on and reading a code p0745 (#2 Pressure Control solenoid malfunction)anyway my question is would it be safe to drive the car still or could i damage the automatic transmission and do you have an idea of how much it would cost to fix it? Also  could this problem have already caused damage to the tranny and if so will i maybe need a new transmission soon? thanks.

Answer
Patrick,

I would not drive the vehicle due to the error code.  If the transmission slips you could wipe out the clutches in the transmission.  I would get the pressure control solenoid replaced as soon as possible.  If it is only valve body related, which it seems to be, you are looking at about $500 to $600 bucks to get the part replaced.  This is due tot he pan and valve body having to be dropped and a new filter, fluid and gasket; along with the solenoid.
