Nissan Repair: erratic idle, mass airflow sensor, vacuum leaks

Question
I have a 2004 Xterra with a V6 engine.  Runs fine, but when idling, seems rough as if it wants to quit, but doesn't.  No check engine light or anything else on.  Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Answer
Jennifer,

I would suggest a tuneup with new sparkplugs as a minimum.  The paltinum plugs are supposed to go 100,000 miles but I see them needing replacement at the 60,000 to 80,000 mile range.  If the plugs have been replaced recently, within the last two years, then you need to look at vacuum leaks, PCV valve and/or cleaning the mass airflow sensor.  Since it is an Xterra I would also replace the wires, cap and rotor...  Email me back if you need more.
