Nissan Repair: Few problems with Nissan Maxima GLE 1995, nissan maxima, vacuum leak

QUESTION: Hi Calvin, the problems I need help with are the following. Thanks
1. Car usually takes about five cranks to start.Occasionally if the engine is hot it may start on first crank. When it starts, the car sputters and the revs fluctuates for a while then stops sputtering and revs stabilize.What could be the cause?

2. Grinding sound from brakes when applied. Seems to be from driver side.

3.  Idles at about  1200 rpm then drops to about 800 when transmission engages. Is that ok?

4. Rear driver side window wont stay up.

5. Gas mileage is bad. 18mpg/ 60 percent city 40 percent highway.

ANSWER: Hi Seyi -

# 1 and 5 are probably related. When was the last tune up? Not sure what year and model you have, but need to check the basics first, spark plugs, cap, rotor, wires, even a vacuum leak.

#2 you need a brake job on the front. Do both right and left sides. Since it is already grinding, might have to replace the rotors too.

#4 the window probably fell off the track. Is this power windows?

Hello -

Since you bought it at an auction, there may be some issues with the car. Try checking the compression to see if the head gasket is OK.

As for the window, it may be off track, or the regulator has snapped. If you work the switch and hear the motor running, then it is probably that.
