Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Sentra, mass airflow sensor, nissan sentra

Question
My sister-in-laws 1993 Sentra quit running. She said when she last drove it,it started to lose power and finally just quit.It acts like it wants to start if it is cranked quit a while. I am getting gas flow up to the gas filter on the firewall. Plug wires are OK and I'm getting fire from the coil to the distributor cap. I am not getting any fire or spark from any of the plug wires when I try to ground them while cranking the car. Any ideas what to check next?

Answer
Ken,

Usually the mass airflow sensor fails and the other problem is the converter melts.  I would get a Haynes Manual and use the procedure in the book to diagnoise the mass airflow sensor.  The sensor usually does not set a check engine code so you never know that is is bad unless you test it.  Also, the converter will have to be removed to look inside it to see if it is defective, as in melted.
