Nissan Repair: Nissan Altima Oil Leak, valve cover gasket, nissan altima

Question
Hi...I have a 1997 Nissan Altima GXE ( 4 cyl. 2.4L, mileage 222, 700) It has an oil leak somewhere on the passenger side. The alternator has oil on it. It is not a severe oil leak; I add a quart or a little less every 3000 miles. I've owned the car for 4 months and it does not appear to get worse. It otherwise runs great and is very dependable, no smoking or coolant loss. The check engine light doen't even come on.
Any suggestions as to where the leak could be coming from? Many thanks.

Answer
Lisa,

I would start with the valve cover gasket.  Other sources are the pan gasket and the front and rear main seal.  Usually, the valve cover gasket goes first.  Also, it is the easiest of the four to replace.  Another thing to do is get the engine steam cleaned and then you will find the leak.
