hi there i was driving my car today and noticed a strong smell of gas and my check engine soon light came on i got it checked and got P0455 EVAP Control System help please and thank you

Either the canister purge valve has broken or you have a defective hose.  The car uses a closed system so when the cap is on the tank no vapor escapes.  There is a canister at the back of the car, behind the rear tire that absorbs gas vapor and catches gas overflow.  If a hose is rotten or a clamp is loose or the canister or purge valve is defective it can leak and smell of gas.  There was a recall on 2003 Nissan cars.  But, yours is an 04 and it is well out of warranty.  So, get the car on a lift and have the hoses and canister checked.  Now, if you topped off the car it could cause an overflow where the canister could not accept all of the gas and it runs overboard.  So, don't top off the tank.  Those are the options.
