Nissan Repair: oil:standard or synthetic, oil change intervals, nissan altima

Question
I just got my third oil change for my recently purchased(9/08)2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S.  It ha 42,800 miles on it.  35,000 miles when purchased.  The mechanic recommended full synthetic oil if I plan to keep the car a long time, which I do.  Should I switch to full synthetic next time or just continue with the regular oil which the car has been getting all along?  Can full synthetic help prevent engine wear and is it safe to put it in an engine with 45,000 miles on it?  I like to get the oil changed every 2500 miles but I was also told with full synthetic a 5000 mile interval would be fine.  Thanks-Jerry

Answer
Hi Jerry -

Full synthetic is the way to go. This oil will coat moving parts and keep it that way despite high engine temps, thus reducing the wear and increasing the life of the engine.

I would recommend oil change intervals of between 5000 and 7500 miles.

Hope this helps -
