Nissan Repair: 1989 240sx with problems, fuse box, dash lights

Question
Hi I've been reading through the questions and have yet to find anything close to how my car is acting. First thing first and probably the easiest is my dash lights. When my boyfriend hooked up my stereo the lights stopped working I'm not too sure why but I'm pretty sure that the bulbs burned out I'm just unsure how to replace them. Then a few weeks ago my battery randomly started dying but would jump and run. We figured it was the stereo so we unplugged the ground and after losing the charge again my boyfriend took out the fuse foe the radio in a trial and error to find out if that was what was draining the charge. Sure enough she has stopped dying but now everytime I turn the car on the windshield wipers come on. I can't figure out why that is happening and I'm also wondering if I should buy a new battery. The one I have is from 07 and I know from body damage and parts that I've replaced that the kid I bought the car from thought he could drift an automatic car. Any help as to the wipers or the battery drainage would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ashley -

I think you have a few issues here.

First of all, when the stereo was being hooked up. perhaps a wire shorted, or something was replaced incorrectly. The instrument panel lights are not working, so check the fuse, it probably blew. Also re-check the runs for the stereo, perhaps it is hooked into something live that is draining the battery. When a stereo is hooked up, normally there is a terminal labeled "IGN" on the fuse box. It should be hooked up to that, not piggy backed on any other fuse.

For the wipers, looks like you may have a short in the switch. Is the switch on the steering wheel?

Let me know -
