Nissan Repair: headlights, beam headlights, nissan pathfinder

Question
QUESTION: Recently both front headlights stopped working at the same time.  All other lights work properly.  Fuses are ok.  Any ideas?  What is the best way to remove the light bulbs from the lamps?  Also, left front turn signal does not work.

Thanks

ANSWER: John,

Nissan uses two seperate circuits, relays and contacts to control the low beam headlights as well as the high beam headlights.  If the fuses are good it is most probably the headlight switch.  I do not know what year or model you have so I could not describe how to remove the lights.  But, you probably have a non HID car and it is just a matter of rotating the bulb assembly counter-clockwise and pulling back to remove.  The side without the battery would be the easiest to check.

QUESTION: Thank you.  It is a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder.  I checked the bulbs and they are ok.  Where is the switch?  Is it common for both headlights to stop working at the same time?

Thanks,

John

Answer
John,

The headlight switch should be the issue.  It is an 94 and the headlight switch houses contacts for all lighting.  The headlights are on seperate circuits so they would die and the others would still work.  Replace the headlight switch.  Yes, it is common.  They wear at the same rate.  I have seen them fail a couple of weeks a part too...
