Nissan Repair: Infiniti I30 1996 brake lights fail to come on, turn signal switch, brake switch

Question
I have notice that every time I replace the 15A fuse for my rear break light it
immediate is blown upon applying the breaks.  Hence, the break lights are not
working.  I have replaced the brake switch as well.

Answer
Hi Mardye -

Looks like you have a direct short in your brake circuit. Look for obvious signs of insulation damage to the wire. Since the fuse only blows when the brake is applied, concentrate on the "line" side of the circuit. Also, try this test - Remove the plastic housing around the steering column and disconnect the turn signal switch at the terminal. Then see if the fuse still blows. If it doesn't replace the turn signal switch -

Hope this helps -
