Nissan Repair: Need urgent help with my Nissan Pulsar, fuel pump relay, nissan pulsar

Question
Hi there I have 1990 Nissan Pulsar x1r 1600 twin cam fuel injected (manual). In the last few weeks it has been playing up. For example I will drive somewhere come back out of where ever I was and my car wont start. The starter motor turns over and it makes the normal start up noise but the engine wont pop over. Also sometimes when im sitting at idle the car will just die. And then it just wont start for ages and sometimes I have to try push start it (embarrising). I am not that clued up about car engines so hopefuly someone has had a similar experience or can tell what the problem is. Thanks heaps. Jarrod

I have been told it could be the dizzy or something to do with a coil I have no idea.

Answer
Jarrod,

It is either fuel or spark.  My first place to look would be the fuel pump and fuel pump relay.  Check for fuel pressure and make sure, when the car dies that the pressure drops off or not.  If the pressure drops off you know either the relay for the pump or the pump itself is bad.  The transistorized ignition could cause the problem too.  If the pump and relay check good then you need to look at if you are getting spark.
