Nissan Repair: 1998 nissan altima, camshaft position sensor, valve cover gasket

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 1998 Nissan Altima I replaced one injector and after reinstalling everything it wont start I decided to check the sparkplugs and found them fouled I crank the motor a few times with the sparkplugs removed and gas was squirting up like a fountain any help to get my car back on the road would be appreciated

ANSWER: Anthony,

The injectors are being commanded to be opened since the cam position sensor is probably defective.  I would first pull the codes and see what the codes are.  You can either purchase an OBDII scan tool or rent one from your local parts store to obtain the codes.  I bet this is the cause.  But, you need the codes to be sure.

QUESTION: i scanned the car prior to replacing the fuel injector it gave me a cylinder # 4 misfire and a camshaft position sensor igot the camshaft sensor code after replacing the valve cover gasket where is the camshaft position sensor located and could  i have damaged it replacing the valve cover gasket or could i have put the valve cover gasket on improperly

Answer
Anthony,

Yes, the sensor can be damaged really easily with little contact.  I would replace it and you should be good.  Also, on the other engine code please get a Haynes Manual and a digital volt ohm meter and check the mass airflow sensor using the procedure and values in the book.  A factory service manual costs much more so that is why I say to purchase the cheaper of the two.  Altima's are known for not throwing a MAS code but having issues.  So, just check it to be sure too.
