Nissan Repair: Maxima Harmonic Balancer, ball park, idler pulley

Question
My car was making a very loud squalling noise when i first crank it up and if the A/C was on it was even louder.  I had the pulley changed but while i the guy was changing the idle pulley he said the problem was the harmonic balancer he showed me where the rubber was separating from the metal.  But so far after he replaced the pulley the noise hasn't came back.  please help b/f i go and spend money to have this part changed. thanks....

Answer
Hi Patty -

If the rubber is indeed separating from the metal, then the HB will need replacing. Looks like the idler pulley was the one making the noise, but at the same time the HB is failing.

What is the price quote? Also, if you want you may take a pic and send it to me, I can tell you if it really needs replacing. With that I can tell you if he is in the ball park at least.

If it is easier to email me, it is cjiwash@yahoo.com

Hope this helps -
