Nissan Repair: Speed sensor, nissan altima, speed sensor

I recently purchased a 2000 Nissan altima from a friend 2 weeks ago. Last week the check engine light went on so I told it to a local auto shop. They advised me it was the speed sensor. How much will that cost including labor? Also, I only looking at driving the car for only 6 months, do you think it will last until then?

Hi Annette -

If you are not keeping the car, I would not replace the speed sensor. I don;t know what part of the US you are at, but here, a rough estimate would be about $150.

If you are keeping the car, then it should be replaced, not so much of engine performance, but you will probably need the codes cleared for registration.
