Hey Calvin,

I own a Nissan Maxima 04 with 60,000miles on it. Now when i put the car to drive i feel some sort of jump from the engine and a noise. it also does that when putting reverse. i took it to a mechanic and told me that it was my engine mount. he told me that the rear and front needs to be replaced.....so with that being said i went to buy the parts at a nissan dealer. i had my uncle (which he used to own a mechanic shop but not anymore)if he can change it for me. now my uncle was doing this in his garage, he was able to change the front one, but given the fact he doesn't have the lifter to lift the car its hard to fix the rear. i guess my question is, is it okay to leave the rear as is right now or would it damage if i don't also change the rear? i was told by the 1st mechanic that it would damage the engine and god knows what else. if its safe to let it be then i would just let it be. but if its unsafe then i would go ahead and change it...thanks for any advice...

Hi Angel -

Yes, it should be good, and you should be OK with not replacing it at this time.

Question - did the sound go away?

There is also a transmission mount that attaches to the frame of the vehicle. This could definitely cause the sound if it is worn.
