Nissan Repair: 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody Spits and Sputters after TPS Replacement, throttle position sensor, nissan hardbody

Question
Hello, I have a 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody with the TBI Z24i engine, 2wd, with an automatic.  This truck has been in our family for years and has ran quite well.  For quite some time now it would buck and jerk intermittently while accelerating or on the interstate. So after reading a few things I decided to replace the Throttle Position Sensor.  Well, after I replaced the TPS the truck ran awesome!  But, the next day I went to start it up and now it spits and sputters and barely idle much less anything else! Please let me know what your opinion is here to shed some light on this issue.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Kenneth,

If the throttle position sensor checks good then I would say the distributor is contaminated with oil.  Get a Haynes Manual and check the throttle position sensor with a volt ohm meter.  To check the distributor take it a apart and look for oil on the optical shutter wheel.  If there is oil replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit.
