Nissan Repair: Starter Problem, nissan quest, starter relay

Question
My nissan quest 1999 starter relay keeps blowing. I Replaced the starter and it works the first time; however procedes to blow the fuse. Im thinking it has a shortage to the ground however i don't know where it's located.?

Answer
Yupheng,

If the starter relay keeps blowing there is an increased resistance on the circuit.  I would first check the cables to make sure there is no corrosion or damage to them.  Second, make sure all connections are tight.  If all of this is good then you are probably looking at a starter rebuild or replacement.  If the starter is binding, as in dry bearings, this could be addressed by a disassembly and lubrication of the bearing surfaces as well as the gear reduction system that is internal to the starter.  High temperature moly grease is best.
