Nissan Repair: Power Steering idle pulley replacement, pulley, proper placement

Question
Have replaced the power steering belt, but when I replaced the idle pulley it locked up upon start up...I noticed a brass shim behing the pulley...Where is the proper placement of this shim?

Answer
Hi Gary -

I believe that shim should be in the front. I am hoping it is not damaged.

Remove the pulley, and relocate the shim to the front. Before putting the belt on, spin the pulley to ensure there is nothing impeding the pulley. If not, then go ahead and install the belt and start it up.

If the shim is damaged, or even the pulley, I recommend replacement.

Hope this helps -
