Nissan Repair: timing chain tensioner, haynes manual, courtesyparts

Question
i have a 94 nissan hardbody 2.4l,when i started the truck there was a rattle all of a sudden,so i took it apart and my timing chain is lose whats the easiest way to fix the problem or is there any way i could tighten the tensioner if possible?..

Answer
Amy,

The chain has stretched.  It is over ten years old so replace the chain, tensioner and the chain guide.  Usually, when they get this loose they end up sawing into the timing cover and then aluminum bits work their way through the engine and you end up replacing it. So, just do the replacement of the chain and related parts and you should be fine.  A Haynes Manual is a good information source as is the factory service manual.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are both good and cost effective sources for parts.  That is, if you can wait for delivery.  Or, for more money your local parts store.  Be sure to replace the front seal when you do the work for a leak proof rapair.
