Nissan Repair: 91 maxima transmission, haynes manual, four quarts

My transmission acts as if 1st gear doesnt exist. it doesnt even try to slip into that gear. it just tries to start moving in 2nd gear. and where is the filter located at in the transmission. haynes manual doesnt even say where its located.

Sounds like the computer is placing the transmission in second gear.  The factory programs it to do this to keep from hurting the transmission.  The filter is located in the pan on the drivers diee, when you look underneath the car.  You could replace the filter and gasket and put in a little over four quarts and reset the computer.  But, from experience I would say you need to have the transmission looked at professionally.  Cottman has been good to me on several rebuilds.  But, check around locally and find a shop that you trust to give you advice after you change the filter and fluid.
