Nissan Repair: Pollen filter replacement & General Tune-up!, nissan primera slx, pollen filter

Question
QUESTION: Calvin,

Just acquired 1998 Nissan Primera SLX Auto SR2.0 with 45k miles and decided to give it a tune up. -Vehicle runs good, but not sure what has been done to it recently.
Q1. Could you give me info on how to access and replace pollen filter (under glove compartment?)
Q2. For tune up I:
1.Replaced engine air filter (- under hood and easy to access).
2.Changed oil and replaced oil filter.
3.Checked one spark plug - it was very clean, with gap to low end of spec (.039 ins), so did not replace any. Should they be replaced anyway, due to age?
4.Would you suggest anything else that should be done
re a tune up for this car that seems to run very good?
Rgds. David.

ANSWER: Hi David -

Yes, the pollen filter is located behind the glove box. Empty the glove box, remove the screws that hold the box, and you should be able to get to it.

As for the tune up, it should be good as it is. I always tell my clients, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it"

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Thanks again Calvin, got to the filter(Nissan P/N 27893-9F500)
Is this a reusable filter - meaning can it be cleaned / washed as some of the filter people suggest or is this a throw away filter? Rgds. David.

Answer
Hi David -

Theoretically, it can be cleaned and replaced, however, I don't recommend doing that. The life would be a lot less, and since you got to it, might as well replace it. Does not usually cost a lot of money anyway.
