Hello, 1992 Nissan D21 4 cyl. 4wd. 170T miles and a week ago started making a high pitched whining noise. Noise appears to die off when accelerating. Noise got much louder and yesterday veh. started running rough and would cut off when stopped at stop signs/lights. Finally, it died while going down road and prior to cutting off, it made a very high pitched noise and died. Veh. has absolutely no fire, but power to coil.

Check the master fuses and the ignition relay.  Also, as for the noise, check the alternator to see if it smoked and that cause it.  Now, on your vehicle the distributor it the trigger for the coil so check and see if the distributor is broken as in the rotor does not turn or that there is oil on the optical shutter wheel under the distributor cover.
