Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Maxima, starter solenoid, nissan maxima

My son just had the transmission in his car replace and now he can't start it with the key.  The mechanic installed an external starter because he didn't know how to fix it.

Hi Annie -

I need you to check a couple things and get back to me, however you will need a circuit light tester.

1. Check for power at the starter (the large wire)

2. When the key is turned, do you have power to the starter solenoid? This is the smaller wire of the 2 that goes to the starter.

If it is working with an external switch (as it is now), then either 1 or 2 above is not getting power. Please check this and get back to me so we can continue the diagnosis.
