Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Altima just quit running while on hyway?, nissan altima, hyway

Question
I was driving my 95 Altima on the highway when all of a sudden the car just died and would barely start back up but not rev over 1000-1200 rpm and was backfiring! It also backfired like crazy when I was coasting and let out on the clutch when it died! I let it sit for bout 5 hrs and it started right back up and made it bout 15 to 20 miles then quit for good! So far have narrowed it down to the spark! I have replaced the coil but still wont run? I get some spark like the coil will spark 1 or 2 times through the whole engine rotation? (I believe its supposed to spark 4 times through the rotation?) If the car does start it will not rev over 1500 rpm and backfires and fouls the plugs? Any help would be appreciated! This has me stumped! (It is also the 2.4L engine) Thank You

Answer
Dustin,

Sounds like a bad distributor.  Email me back and let me know if there is oil on the optical shutter wheel.  Take the cap, rotor, rotor post and cover off and look at the optical shutter wheel.  If there is oil on the optics replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit and the car should run fine.
