Nissan Repair: 98 Altima has a intermediate miss!, spark plug wire, haynes manual

Question
Von,took distributor out,and apart,showed a very little
sign of oil inside.Removed all with electrical cleanser, put
back together, same problem.I felt all the plug wires while
running,#1 was thudding like it was a injector.I took it
out and the whole porcelain, from top to bottom, you could
spin it around, remember, these are new plugs.Replaced with a
new one, still, the same miss. Can you tell me how to test a
spark plug wire,I seem to think I might have a faulty wire,
or do you insist it is the distributor,I have one on order.
Is it the rule of thumb that if oil is present in there, that
it should be replaced. The one I ordered claims to have only
39xxx mi. on it. I would like to know if there is a way to
test the wires? I have already informed Auto zone of this,
and that I was going to try another distr. first. Thanx Von.

Answer
Philip,

You can check plugs and wires by switching them to another cylinder and see if the problem follows to the other hole.  Otherwise, it is a matter of getting an ohm meter and performing an ohm test.  Get a Haynes Manual and it has instructions on how to perform the test.
