Nissan Repair: 2004 Nissan front suspension, whoop whoop, pivots

Question
The front end is starting to make some noises, mostly on the right side but the left seems to be increasing.  It sounds like if you took an old hand saw and compressed the blade a little and then let it snap back straight, kind of a whoop, whoop sound.  I suspect the front shocks.  Do you have another idea of what it could be?

Answer
Steve,

The sound you describe sounds like the struts are failing.  Also, when you have the struts replaced get the strut tower bearings replaced too.  This is what the strut pivots on.  When it wears out it will make a clunking sound.  Sears does a good job as do other stores when they combine a strut sale with installation and an alignment.  When the struts are removed you will have to have an alignment.  Also, if you do the work yourself the spring has to be removed from the old strut and installed on the new strut.  So, your choice here.  You can save some money if you have the tools to compress the spring and do the install yourself.  But, you will still need an alignment.
