Nissan Repair: Difficulty replacing alternator belt on 95 Nissan Pathfinder 4WD, nissan pathfinder, pulley

Hello.  I've been having difficulty replacing the belt on my SUV.  I've loosened the top bolt and the bottom bolt which allows the alternator to pivot.  I've pushed the alternator as far toward the engine as possible, but it is now up against the engine block.  It will not loosen enough to get the new belt over the pulley.  Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the correct belt for the installation? It seems that the belt is too small. I would go back and ask to verify the size and application.

If it is correct, then ask the supplier to just give you the next larger size. Sometimes the information provided in their book is wrong, happens a lot.
