Nissan Repair: tranny, shift fork, lockout

Question
Thankyou for the previous answer, after a complete disassembly I found all parts in good order. After inspecting, everything seems to align properly, neutral slot in shift rails, detent balls and shafts, etc. Reverse lockout seems to be the problem, yet nothing appears bent.

Answer
James,

If the transmission will shift into reverse out of the car then the problem would be with the shifter.  If the transmission will not shift into reverse and all is in order then you need to take the reverse gear off and check the mesh of the gears and see if something is blocking their movement.  To do this, pull the shift fork off and manually move the transmission into reverse.  Check the feel as it could be a balking ring worn or sticking.
