Audio Systems: bose headunit replacement, bose speakers, resistance ratings

Question
i have an infiniti i 30 t with bose speakers and i really want to replace the headunit nothing wrong with it but i want to upgrade to a nicer one. can i do this while keeping the same sound quality? do i have to buy a certain type of headunit that is compatable? and also i want more bass, what can i get that will work with the bose? thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Pete,

Unfortunately, Bose being the Juggernaut that they are, they pretty much have the audio in your car dialed in the way THEY want it and there's not much you can do about it unless you start from scratch.
The wiring uses some odd non-standard termials, the speakers are all unusual resistance ratings (2.3 Ohms and 3 Ohms, so you can't just swap in a new head-unit) and the head unit has an embedded unadjustable EQ without any pre-outputs for you to tap into to add a sub.

Bottom Line: If you're looking to pimp your i30 into a thumping whip, or even if you want good audio, you'll need to rip everything out and essentially buy and install a completely new system.
