Nissan Repair: 280zx electical problems, electrical issues, radio shop

Question
I've got a Datsun 280zx (not a Turbo) with some electrical issues. I accidentally sparked the battery which I've heard you're not supposed to do... anyway, this has apparently caused some electrical problems. Whenever I flip a switch to turn on my interior lights, open my door, or give power to my radio, my gauges drop to zero and the clock dims out. I found a fried fusible link and replaced it, the rest look fine. Basically, everything was working, now it isn't.

Also, my tape deck keeps 'clicking' between play and rewind (probably due to 'autoreverse', whatever that is). I really don't need to 'fix' it, I just need to get it to stop rewinding- I use a cassette adapter and just need it to stop clicking. Is this related to the electrical issue, or is it just an old tape deck? And how do I fix it? Thanks.

Answer
Phillip,

Nice car.  I miss mine...  Anyway, you will need to check each circuit to verify that it is not blown.  The fuse link is just the first place to start.  Go to Autozone or Checker and get the electrical system checked to make sure the alternator is in good order.  The spark could have blown a rectifier.  Second, check the master fuse links at the positive terminal.  The clicking on the radio tape player is he drive band being broken.  You will have to disassemble the radio and replace the drive band for the pinchwheel.  Radio Shack is the place to get one or a radio shop that repairs radios.  I took one from a tape deck that I no longer used to correct mine.
