Nissan Repair: 2002 PathFinder Instrument Lights, nissan pathfinder, haynes manual

Question
I have a 2002 Nissan PathFinder.  For the past few months, the instrument lights have been failing intermittently.  First the tach light would go out.  Sometimes it worked, but other times it didn't.  Next it affected the speedometer light.  Lately, those have been working but the odometer light has been out.  I considered tearing into the dash, but I don't know how complicated that is and wondered if there's an easier way.  Can you help me figure out a solution?

Answer
Don,

The issue that has to be addressed is the removal of the instrument cluster.  You need to get a Haynes Manual or the factory service manual and follow the directions to remove the instrument cluster.  Then, clean the contacts to the connector and the cluster with a number 2 pencil eraser and then blow off the dust and see if that corrects the problem.  Also, the connections where the bulbs plug in need to be cleaned and the bulbs replaced.  The problem should be solved.
