Nissan Repair: 93 Nissan hardbody high rpm, nissan hardbody, shift problem

Question
i have a 93 hardbody 4cyl auto. 4 brand new tires and 4 brand new shocks. truck has 180k miles. it seems that it hits real high rpm before shifting into second. is that a tranny problem??? also there is no rpm gauge but anything above 50 or 55 mph it high rpm also when under load. is that a tranny problem as well?

Answer
Andrew,

The governor in the transmission is sticking.  I would take it to a shop to get it diagnosed.  But, the high shift problem is governor related.  You could change the fluid and see if that corrects it first.  But, from the sounds of it the governor is sticking.
