Nissan Repair: nissan skyline r33 gtr airflow meter, nissan skyline r33 gtr, nissan skyline r33

Question
Hi,I've been having some plug fouling problems and engine cutout issues due to the airflow meter or connection(the top one),could you tell me is it possible to remove the four screws  and dismantle the unit to inspect the circuit board inside?is it more likely that it is just the connector itself?is there some material i can use to aid the electrical connection that wont evaporate over time?(with a grease like consistency).what is a safe product readily available to clean the airflow meter itself?i am very concerned about damaging this component as it is an import to aust.and i have been told replacement parts are expensive?will a fine oil mist affect the performance of this part?any help greatly appreciated,Andrew.

Answer
Andrew,

The airflow meter can be cleaned using a mass airflow sensor cleaner.  Looks like tuner cleaner but it is specifically for air meters.  Next, the conenctor could be filled with di-electric grease to keep moisture out.  The same stuff you use on the ends of plug wires, where they connect to sparkplug ends.  An oil mist will hurt performance of the mass airflow sensor.  If yours is developing that you might have a ring blowby problem to look into.  An airflow meter is quite expensive to replace so you are right about that.
