Nissan Repair: 2000 Frontier 4x4 pass side turn signal wont blink when put on brake, turn signal switch, illumination level

Question
I have a 2000 Frontier pu that when you put on the passenger side turn signal, it will blink but when you touch the brake pedal it will stop blinking.  On observing the rear lights, when the pass side turn signal is blinking, there is a slight blink (low level illumination) on the driver side rear brake light and the high mount brake light (with normal illumination level) is blinking with the pass side turn signal.  I have not noticed it but my son said that sometimes when you turn to the right and are on the brake pedal that it will go ahead and blink (according to the dash turn indicators).

I replaced the pass side rear brake bulb and the turn signal bulb.  It seems that there is a short between the brake lights and the pass side turn signal but I'm not sure how to check it out other than pulling the wires out of the harness and tracing them that way.  I will also replace the turn signal/hazard flasher to see if that helps.  Any advice you could give would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi David -

This could be a ground fault, or even the turn signal switch. The latter I would suspect more, because of what you sad when the wheel is turned. All wiring for the lights pass through the T/S switch, so that could be it.

Removal is pretty basic, just remove the plastic housing on the steering column and you can get to the switch.

Hope this helps -
