Nissan Repair: 88 nissan hardbody 2.4 runs rough, nissan hardbody pickup, combustion chamber

I have a 88 nissan hardbody pickup with a 2.4 that runs very rough at idle (almost like its running on 3 clyinders). If you rev it up to fast it pings like hell, if you slowly bring up the rpms it smooths out with no pinging. When you let up on the clutch to put the engine under load it starts pinging like hell while the rpms are up. It has 8 new plugs, new wires and a new cap. the truck has around 145000 miles on it. Any ideas would be of a great help. Many thanks Ron

If it pings retard the timing or use a higher octain fuel.  If you have a rough idle and it misses check the compression to make sure you are not getting oil into the combustion chamber.  That would cause pinging too.  Check the compression and email me back with what you find.
