Nissan Repair: Speedometer pinion/ dash lights, nissan sentra xe, nissan sentra

I have a 1992 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6L I really have two issues to ask about first is changing the speedometer pinion located in the transfer case ,how do I remove the top plate is it held with gasket sealant and just one bolt. I checked the gauge and cable both are fine. Second question is about lights in the dash and also doom light doesnt work when car ignition is off, there is no radio in the car could this be effecting the lights or do I have another issue? Fuses are all fine, and there doesnt seem to be a fuselink for lights.

You can pull the speedometer sensor and see if the teeth are worn down.  If so, it is a matter of replacement to correct.  Yes, you have the correct idea to get the unit replaced.  Second, the dome light is probably worn out.  I had a Stanza with the same problem...  If you pull the cover and use a test light to back probe you will see what the problem is.  Also, if you have a shorted door pin switch that would cause the dome light not to work.
