Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Xterra wont start, nissan xterra, positive cable

Question
I hope you can help us.  We have a 2001 Nissan Xterra.  The battery died about a month ago, so we bought a new one.  It has ran fine since then.  For the last two days, we haven't drove it.  It has been really cold outside (don't know if this is relevant or not).  Today the Xterra won't start.  When we turn the key, there is some rapid clicking noise and nothing else.  We took the battery to Autozone and it checked out fine.  We thought it might be the starter and was going to take it in to Autozone, also, but are not sure where it is located.

Do you know what would cause this?  If it's the starter, can you tell me where it is?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi jamie -

Looks like it is the starter. I am assuming you have a V6 engine. If so, the starter is under the vehicle. The best way to find it is to follow the positive cable from the battery and it should take you to the starter.

Here is a little trick - get a small hammer, once you find the starter, tap the starter with the hammer while someone tries to start the engine. A lot of times the car will start this way.

Although you will still need to replace the starter, at least you can get to where you are going.

Hope this helps
aloha
