Nissan Repair: serena water pump, vent holes, little holes

My 1999 Serena has developed a leak from the water pump. on inspection the water is coming from two little holes which are already present on the pump one on the bottom at approximately the 5 o'clock position and the other on top directly opposite at approximately the 11 o'clock position. I am not sure why this is happening but i seem to be losing alot of water through them. I am unsure why this is happening so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those are vent holes designed to be there. Reason why you are leaking water through there is because your seal went out. Basically the water pump needs replacement, and you should be good to go. Don't forget to replace the thermostat and give it a flush while you are at it -
