Nissan Repair: Infiniti I30 was stalling....., mass airflow sensor, dashboard lights

Question
QUESTION: Hey Von,
Don't know if you remember me and my problem, but my Infiniti I30 was stalling at braking/stopping and radio and dashboard lights were popping on etc...(jan. 1st) Per your advice (thank you) I had my mechanic install an after-market MAS and drove to airport and left town. Seemed to have fixed the stalling issue, but upon driving home from LAX last night, the radio popped on , out of the blue. Nothing else happened and no codes either. I had been driving about 65 on freeway when it occurred. I am heading out again this morning, but wondered if I should be going back to mechanic again on return from this trip. Any ideas or could it have been something leftover from original problem? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Best, Ray

ANSWER: Ray,

The pop noise should not be related to the mass airflow sensor.  The pop noise could be that the alternator is putting out too much power.  Or, the radio itself could be just going out.  I would go to Autozone or Checker and get a free electrical load test.  They will let you know if the alternator or battery is not working properly.  Or, they will let you know all is fine and you should be looking into the radio.

QUESTION: I think I may have used a bad word that might have misled you so I just want to be clear - when I said the radio just "popped on" - i meant it simply turned itself on while i was driving - not that there was any "popping sound". Just want to be sure i am not misleading you.. thanks much, ray

Answer
Ray,

If the radio just turned itself on would mean that the internal circuit, that turns the radio on, a small switch/relay is blown, or the over bias spring has failed on the switch.  I would get a radio off ebay or a wrecking yard and replace it...
