Nissan Repair: 1999 Nissan Maxima ABS light and such, nissan maxima, abs light

Question
I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima and have never had a problem until now.  The ABS light comes on and goes off repeatedly.  However, when the ABS light comes ON, the headlights brighten up, wipers speed up and speakers stop working.  Is this a relay issue?  Sensor issue?  Am I screwed?  Gremlins?  Already checked all the fuses, so that's not it.

Answer
Bill,

The ABS light should have a code.  I would have the code read first and then address the problem.  I would check all four wheels for wires being torn.  Also, bleed the brakes and make sure the brake fluid is fresh.  Disconnect the battery for five minutes to clear the code.  On the brightness issue, I would think the alternator needs to be checked.  Autozone or Checker will do an electrical load test for free if you drive down to one of their stores.  They can tell you if the charging system is working properly.  Email me back if you need more.
