Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra SE 2001, nissan sentra, cigarette lighters

Question
I have a Nissan Sentra SE 2001 and the window on the passenger side works on and off.  I can always get it to let down, but sometimes it won't come back up.  What could be the problem?  Also, my my charger (cigarette lighters doesn't work).  I bought a new fuse, but it didn't help.

Answer
Hi Venora -

Your window could be either the switch or the motor. Best way to check is to get a light tester (12V with probe). This can be purchased at any auto store - inexpensive. Remove the door panel by carefully unsnapping the plastic anchors one by one. There may be some screws as well. Follow the wire from the window switch to the motor. Turn the ignition on and while the switch is engaged, check power to the motor with the probe (make sure you attach the other end to any metal surface of the vehicle). If there is power, then the motor is bad (it takes a lot more effort to raise the window as opposed to lowering it) If there is no power, then the switch needs replacement.

As for the lighter socket, check it with the tester. Take the probe and touch the center of that socket (there should be a metal button right in the middle of the socket) Be careful not to touch the sides. With the ignition on, if there is no power there, then the socket needs replacing. If there is power, please check the fuses again - Use the same tester and go through each terminal of each fuse.

Hope this helps -
aloha
